*Kelly Rowland and Porsha Williams are throwing their support behind the growing QuitGPT boycott campaign, which calls on users to abandon ChatGPT over concerns about OpenAI’s political affiliations. The movement, spearheaded by actor and activist Mark Ruffalo, has reportedly attracted 700,000 participants since launching in early February.
Ruffalo kicked off the campaign after discovering that OpenAI executives contributed to a pro-Trump super PAC. He took to Instagram to make his case, writing, “ChatGPT’s president is Trump’s biggest donor. Their tech powers ICE. It’s time to boycott: QUITGPT.”
He added in a follow-up caption, “To every artist who wants to fight back against AI and stand with Minneapolis: this is your chance. Join us at quitgpt.org.”

SandraRose.com reports that Rowland signaled her commitment by responding to Ruffalo’s post with a simple but pointed comment: “Assignment understood!” Williams also publicly aligned herself with the effort.
At the heart of the boycott are two primary concerns. Supporters point to reports that AI technology connected to ChatGPT has been utilized by government bodies like U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in workforce vetting and applicant review processes.
The campaign has gained traction on Reddit, Instagram, and its own dedicated website, where users pledge to end their paid ChatGPT memberships and delete the app from their devices.
Ruffalo has also pushed participants toward competing services, noting, “There are other chat apps you can use that are actually just as good, or cheaper or more private that don’t fund evil in the world. Lumo from ProtonMail comes to mind but also DuckDuckGo. I am sure there are so many more.”
Organizers have stressed that the movement is not rooted in opposition to artificial intelligence itself but rather aims to redirect users toward alternatives like Gemini, Claude, and open-source platforms that better reflect their personal values.
