*K. Michelle is entering country music on her own terms, and that includes standing by one of the genre’s most controversial stars.
During an appearance on “The Breakfast Club,” the singer reaffirmed her admiration for fellow artist Morgan Wallen while promoting her first full-length country album, “Jesus & Whiskey.”
“It’s funny how we pick and choose our outrage,” K. Michelle said while discussing the backlash Wallen faced after using a racial slur in 2021.
She said his public explanation did not change her opinion of him. Her praise also extends beyond his popularity.

Last year, K. Michelle identified Wallen’s “Had It” as the song she most wished she had written.
“I went through that in a breakup,” she told Us Weekly. “It’s clever and straight to the point.”
Wallen’s 2021 controversy led to radio removals, industry suspensions and widespread condemnation. He later posted a lengthy apology for using the N-word in a vrial video and urged supporters not to excuse his behavior.
“I was wrong,” Wallen said, adding that he accepted “ownership” of what happened.
He also said conversations with Black leaders helped him better understand the impact of the slur.
“A word can truly hurt a person,” he said. “Our actions matter. Our words matter and I just want to encourage anyone watching to please learn from my mistake.”
Wallen has remained commercially successful despite the controversy and later legal troubles.
