*House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries is drawing a clear line heading into midterm season — and impeachment is not part of the plan.
The New York Democrat appeared on “Fox News Sunday” and shut down the idea directly when asked whether removing President Trump would be a priority if Democrats reclaim the House majority.
“Of course not,” Jeffries said, per The Hill, pivoting immediately to the cost of living as the party’s central focus. “I’ve made clear from the very beginning that our top priority is going to be to drive down the high cost of living.”
He framed his vision around employment, housing, health care, education, and retirement security. “We believe in this country, you work hard, you play by the rules. You should be able to live an affordable life, a comfortable life, in fact, to live the good life,” he said.

Impeachment talk had surfaced earlier this year amid the ongoing Iran war, but any momentum behind those efforts collapsed once it became clear the votes were never there. Rep. Gregory Meeks of New York reinforced that reality on CNN. “To do those things, you have to have the votes. And when I see that we have Republicans who won’t even have hearings in regard to oversight, and they control the House, they control the Senate, they have the presidency,” he said.
“So realistically, I don’t have the time, I’m worried about the country, the country’s economy, the American people, and that’s where my efforts are going to be moving forward,” he added.
Jeffries has repeatedly taken aim at Trump over the cost of living, including calling out the president on spiking gas prices connected to the Iran war.
“That’s been the American dream for decades, but for far too many people, that American dream has slipped out of reach, and we should be focused on actually doing the type of things necessary to ensure that people in this country cannot simply survive, but they can thrive,” he told Fox News Sunday anchor Shannon Bream.
