*Jasmine Guy is not done turning heads, and she is being transparent about how she is doing it.
The actress who made Whitley Gilbert a household name on “A Different World” is openly documenting her skincare regimen at 62. Guy has been visiting Pretty Faces Atlanta for Pico laser sessions, a treatment designed to reduce dark spots, soften the appearance of scars and stretch marks, and create a more even skin tone.
According to the Institute of Medical Physics, the technology behind the treatment has attracted growing attention for good reason.
Most people recognize laser treatments as procedures that rely on heat to target concerns beneath the skin. Earlier generations of laser technology directed concentrated thermal energy into specific areas to address discoloration and other cosmetic issues. While effective, those treatments often affected surrounding tissue and sometimes led to inflammation, longer recovery periods, and additional pigmentation concerns.
Pico laser takes a different approach. It delivers pulses that last only picoseconds, with each burst occurring in a fraction of a trillionth of a second. At that pace, the energy creates a pressure-based force instead of heat, breaking apart pigment clusters at a cellular level. The body then clears away the fragments through its natural processes.
That non-thermal approach offers a significant advantage for people with melanin-rich skin. Older laser systems can trigger inflammation that creates additional pigmentation concerns for patients with darker complexions. Because Pico technology avoids that heat-based process, it greatly reduces those risks. Dermatologists now use the treatment on patients across the full spectrum of skin tones.
Most patients recover quickly and resume their normal routines within a few days. The treatment also encourages the skin to produce more of the proteins that help maintain firmness, density, and elasticity. As those changes develop, many patients notice continued improvements in their skin’s appearance.
Guy is still early in her journey. But the technology she is using has built a strong reputation among skincare professionals, and many patients seek it out for both corrective and preventative treatments.
