*A new lawsuit accuses Jada Pinkett Smith of threatening one of Will Smith’s closest friends and destroying his livelihood
The Daily Mail reports that the suit, brought by Bilaal Salaam, claims the actress warned he would “end up missing” or “catch a bullet” if he continued speaking about her personal affairs. Salaam, who is representing himself, filed the complaint in Los Angeles Superior Court and is seeking $3 million for emotional distress. He asserts that Jada confronted him in September 2021 inside a Calabasas hotel lobby during a celebration for Will’s 53rd birthday, approaching with a group of seven and becoming “verbally aggressive.” According to his account, she demanded he sign an NDA “or else,” prompting him to leave while one associate allegedly followed him and issued further threats.
In the lawsuit, Salaam describes himself as “a best friend for nearly 40 years” and notes that their history appears in Will Smith’s memoir. He says the fallout from the confrontation pushed him into isolation for nearly two years and contributed to severe health problems, the loss of a long-term relationship, and estrangement from his children. He told Daily Mail he is “seeking justice for the atrocities committed against me by Will and Jada.”
Salaam also alleges that actor Duane Martin contacted him for crisis support but warned he would face “serious problems with Jada” if he declined. He claims three of Smith’s associates later threatened him as word spread about his planned memoir on Will and Jada.
Additional accusations center on Jada’s public denials regarding claims of intimate behavior involving Will and other men. He asserts that her statements were intended to discredit him and that the backlash destroyed his jewelry brand and halted the publication of his memoir, which he expected would earn a significant advance.
The filing further contends that Jada “falsely stated” he attempted a “money shakedown,” harming his reputation while announcing plans to sue him that never materialized.
