Ike Turner Jr. Dies at 67, One Day After His Birthday
*The music world is mourning the loss of Ike Turner Jr., the eldest son of rock and soul legends Ike and Tina Turner. He passed away yesterday (10-04-25), at a Los Angeles hospital, just one day after celebrating his 67th birthday, according to TMZ. Family members confirmed his passing, describing it as a “heartbreaking loss” for the Turner legacy.
Born Izear Luster Turner Jr. on October 3, 1958, in East St. Louis, Illinois, Ike Jr. grew up in the heart of one of music’s most influential families. As a child, he performed in the famous Ike & Tina Turner Revue, a powerhouse act that brought hits like “Proud Mary” and “River Deep – Mountain High” to global fame.

Growing Up in the Shadow of Fame and Turmoil
Ike Jr. and his siblings—Michael, Ronnie, and half-brother Craig Raymond Turner—lived through the highs and lows of their parents’ fame. Behind the glittering stage performances were darker realities, including Ike Sr.’s abusive behavior toward Tina, which she later revealed in her bestselling autobiography, “I, Tina.”
After Tina left Ike in 1976 and launched her solo career, the Turner children were left to navigate life between two very different worlds. Ike Jr. often spoke about his struggles with his father’s legacy but also about forgiveness and understanding the complexities of fame and trauma.
A Career Built on Talent, Not Just a Famous Name
While his family name opened doors, Ike Turner Jr. built his own reputation in music. He was a skilled multi-instrumentalist and Grammy-winning sound engineer. His proudest professional moment came in 2001 when he won a Grammy for Best Traditional R&B Vocal Album as an engineer on Tina Turner’s platinum album Twenty Four Seven.

Over the years, he collaborated with major artists, including Lionel Richie and Cher, known for blending old-school soul with cutting-edge production. Friends described him as a “quiet genius” who loved the craft of sound more than the spotlight.
Health Struggles and a Family Marked by Loss
In recent years, Ike Jr. battled chronic kidney disease and heart complications. He passed away from kidney failure surrounded by loved ones. His death comes just two years after his brother Ronnie’s 2022 death and two years after Tina Turner’s passing in 2023.
Tina’s niece, Jacqueline Bullock, released a statement saying, “With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Ike Turner Jr. He fought valiantly but leaves a void in our hearts.”
Tributes and Legacy of Ike Turner Jr.
Tributes poured in from across the music industry. Producer Quincy Jones III posted, “A true unsung hero behind the boards—rest in rhythm.” The entertainment site Baller Alert shared, “Another Turner gone too soon.” On social media, #RIPikeTurnerJr trended as fans shared classic clips of Tina and Ike performing together.
Though his life was marked by hardship, Ike Turner Jr.’s contributions to music endure. His blend of soul, rock, and technical mastery helped shape a sound that still inspires today. As Tina once sang, “What’s love got to do with it?” For Ike Jr., love—and music—had everything to do with it.
