*First it was Kanye West. Then it was Ye. Now it’s a new chapter the rapper is starting with a new name in tow.
E! News cites documents it obtained to report West’s new moniker, Ye Ye, was listed as the “manager or member” of his companies Yeezy Apparel, Yeezy Record Label and Ox Paha Inc. The outlet was tipped off on the moniker switch when the “We Major” entertainer’s chief financial officer Hussain Lalani recently referred to him as Ye Ye in multiple filings regarding the 48-year-old rhymesayer’s businesses sent to the California Secretary of State.
At this time, it is unclear if West himself also filed documents to legally change his name.
California law states that it is required by law to broadcast a name change request in the local newspaper before the petition is seen by a judge.
“You must publish in a newspaper of general circulation that publishes legal notices in the county where you file your case,” the website for the state’s courts noted

West’s latest moniker comes after he announced in May that he was going to end his use of his verified account on X (formerly Twitter). The social media handle boasts more than 33 million followers since it was still under his birth name.
“Ima finally stop using the @kanyewest twitter cause my name is Ye,” he wrote on May 31. “Gonna start a ye account and it is what it is.”
The breakaway from the “Ye” name signals the start of a new era for West, who legally changed his name from his birth name, Kanye Omari West, to Ye nearly four years ago in 2018.
That same year, the “Can’t Tell Me Nothing’” hitmaker detailed the reason behind his love of the word ‘ye’ when speaking with radio personality Big Boy. In the chat, West mentioned he was drawn to the word “ye” for a name because it’s “the most commonly used word in the Bible.”
“In the Bible, it means ‘you,'” he explained. “So, I’m you, I’m us, it’s us. It went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye—just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confusion, everything.”
The first name shift occurred when it cam time to name West’s eighth studio album. The title of the album, “Ye,” stemmed from it being “more of a reflection of who we are.”
“I wanted something that felt with the energy,” West stated. “Just with the universe was giving me, I wanted to match that energy.”
West is only the latest celebrity to birth a new name that is far removed from the one he came into the world with. Among the famous name changers are Tom Cruise, Katy Perry, Shaboozey, Chappell Roan, Sterling K. Brown and Cardi B.
