*Fans of franchises like “Game of Thrones,” “Star Trek,” DC films and NFL broadcasts, could eventually find all of that content under a single streaming platform as major merger plans move forward between Paramount+ and HBO Max.
The streaming consolidation is part of Paramount Skydance’s pending acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, a transaction valued at roughly $77 billion in equity. Once debt is factored in, the overall price climbs beyond $110 billion. Both companies’ boards have already given their approval, and Warner Bros. Discovery shareholders also voted in favor of the deal earlier this year.
Rather than immediately shutting down either service, the companies are expected to gradually combine operations over time, Cord Cutters reports. HBO is still expected to remain a recognizable standalone brand within the larger streaming structure, while BET+ is also planned to be folded into Paramount+ as part of the transition.
The merged platform would pull together programming from several major entertainment brands and studios. That includes HBO originals, Warner Bros. films, Discovery content, CBS programming, Paramount Pictures releases, and sports coverage tied to the NFL.

David Ellison said the combined direct-to-consumer business is projected to reach more than 200 million subscribers. Company leadership believes the larger platform could help strengthen audience engagement while improving long-term profitability.
Even with the deal moving ahead, several obstacles still remain before the services fully unite. Regulators continue reviewing the acquisition, while a consumer advocacy group has already filed a lawsuit aimed at blocking the merger over concerns tied to competition and potential pricing changes.
No launch date or pricing structure for the combined streaming service has been announced. For now, subscribers should expect HBO Max and Paramount+ to continue operating separately as integration plans move forward.
