*Gucci Mane has revealed the challenges of living with bipolar disorder and paranoid schizophrenia in his new memoir and album, “Episodes.” The rapper discusses the intense work it has taken to remain grounded while navigating his mental health struggles.
During an interview on “The Breakfast Club,” Gucci and his wife, Keyshia Ka’oir, shared how they have managed his episodes over the years, TheGrio reports. Ka’oir described witnessing his struggles before their marriage, saying, “I experienced him going through episodes before we were married, and I was like, ‘Man, somebody got to help this guy.’” She added, “I felt like if I left, he wouldn’t have been the same. He needed someone to help him.”
Gucci Mane explained what an episode feels like, stating, “You’re not in your mind. You’re kind of like in a warped world, it’s almost like it’s a psychosis. It’s not…and you’re hearing voices too.” He described the intensity of these moments in his book, saying, “Madness is like a very evil side of me. It’s very no compassion, no empathy, like void of just of good. It’s like a empty eyes, soulless. I say the most meanest things.”
Gucci Mane deals with schizophrenia but he has a partner that actually loves him & he did the work to better manage it. His wife Keyshia planned a kidnapping just to get him to the hospital & he hasn’t had an episode since. This is real love, not someone being exploited. pic.twitter.com/0wWSGxHLDf

His manic episodes were often fueled by impulsivity and anger. Gucci recounted, “I would give my friends jewelry, and they knew I wasn’t well and they’d take it… So, like when I got out of jail, I cut off all my friends, my old friends. I’m like, damn, they were taking advantage.”
To safeguard both her husband and their privacy, Ka’oir put careful routines in place to keep things under control., explaining, “I take apps off his phone. First thing I do, I delete Instagram. I delete everything. Even if I got to change his password, I’m changing it because I don’t need the public to know he’s having an episode.”
Since becoming a father, Gucci says he has remained stable. “What scared me was, I cannot ever let my kids see me like that… I just want to be on point for my kids,” he said.
