*Singers Freda Payne and Louis Price are taking center stage in the dramedy “A Sudden Family,” which is now filming in Los Angeles.
As Deadline reports, Payne leads the cast alongside former Temptations frontman Louis Price. The film also features Rufus Dorsey, Sammie Ray, and introduces a unique on-screen collaboration between Payne and her son, Gregory Abbott Jr.
“A Sudden Family” tells the story of a high school wrestling coach caught in a personal struggle between pursuing a long-awaited dream job and navigating an unexpected family situation. This challenge forces him to reconsider what is truly important in life.
Directed by Matthew S. Robinson (My Friend Violet), the film is produced by James Pratt (Longevity Hackers). Executive producers include Ron Krauss (Open Wounds), Craig Titley (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), and Rufus Dorsey, who is also the writer and producer.
The supporting cast boasts singer Wanda Dee, Ashley Nocera, and Katarina Severen. Rufus Dorsey described the project as “a deeply human story — and with a cast like this, it’s coming to life in a way that’s honest and powerful.”

Payne recently received notable recognition, including the SoulTracks Lifetime Achievement Award and the Women Songwriters Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement and Legacy Award in 2023, honoring her significant contributions to music.
With this talented ensemble and a heartfelt storyline, “A Sudden Family” aims to blend humor and drama in a compelling portrayal of family, dreams, and personal growth.
