*Dolton, Illinois, Mayor Tiffany Henyard is reportedly being evicted from her home for failing to pay rent, according to an eviction notice filed in Cook County Circuit Court.
Henyard and her boyfriend Kamal Woods pay $2,400 a month in rent and owe more than $3,300, FOX32 Chicago reported. The property manager said they are months behind on payments. The eviction notice states they must pay up immediately or vacate the premises. A court date for the eviction proceedings is scheduled for October 22.
Henyard, 41, reportedly earns $300,000 annually as mayor and also serves as Thornton Township supervisor, while Woods earns over $100,000 as the township’s youth director. According to Henyard’s attorney, the couple has not missed any rent payments.
“This is a claim brought under false pretenses,” Henyard’s attorney Beau Brindley told WGN. “I don’t believe proof of missed payment can be produced. This is being driven by other motives and is not a complaint brought in good faith.”
Meanwhile, we reported earlier that the village of Dolton has enlisted former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot to investigate allegations of taxpayer fund misuse and other corrupt practices against Henyard, known as the “Dolton Dictator.”
“As someone who has made good governance the cornerstone of my career in public service, I recognize that maintaining the trust of those you serve and making decisions in their best interests is essential,” Lightfoot said in a statement, New York Post reports. “The residents of Dolton deserve nothing less than a government that is fully accountable, responsive, transparent, and effective stewards of taxpayer dollars.”
Lightfoot noted that her tenure as mayor of Chicago would enable her to offer impartial findings and recommendations.
Henyard made history in February 2021 by becoming both the first woman and the youngest mayor of Dolton, securing 82 percent of the vote after serving eight years as a village trustee.
