*A conservative nonprofit and a Colorado dermatologist have taken legal aim at a physician directory they say unlawfully bars non-Black doctors from being listed.
Do No Harm and Dr. Travis Morrell filed the lawsuit Tuesday in Manhattan federal court, naming New York dermatologist Dr. Dina Strachan, the founder of “Find A Black Doctor,” as the defendant. According to the New York Post, the complaint centers on the directory’s eligibility requirements, which bar anyone outside that racial category from being considered. Do No Harm, a nonprofit with more than 50,000 members, argues the policy amounts to unlawful exclusion based on race against physicians who cannot qualify for a listing.
Morrell says he regularly sees patients across racial backgrounds, including a significant number of Black patients. According to the lawsuit, he submitted an application to join the directory on Dec. 23, 2025, and never heard back. A follow-up email months later also went unanswered. The suit characterizes his application as “constructively rejected because he is white.”
The plaintiffs also challenge the site’s promotion of “racial concordance,” the belief that patients fare better under the care of doctors who share their racial background. The lawsuit reject the site’s underlying premise entirely, calling its assertions about race and healthcare outcomes “unsupported and false” and accusing the directory of pushing “harmful, offensive, and racist stereotypes.”

“Find A Black Doctor” is a hub for Black patients seeking physicians who reflect their community. Doctors seeking a listing are required to submit personal and professional information, agree to the terms of use, and consent to having their data made publicly available through the platform.
Do No Harm and Morrell are asking the court to remove race as an eligibility requirement for the directory, to accept Morrell’s application, and to award both compensatory and punitive damages.
