*The Department of Homeland Security shared a video on its official social media, showing Black teens staring into a camera with an overlaid caption that stated: “ICE we’re on the way. Word in the streets cartels put a $50K bounty on y’all.” The agency captioned it: “FAFO. If you threaten or lay hands on our law enforcement officers we will hunt you down and you will find out, really quick. We’ll see you cowards soon.”
DHS shared the video to back its reports of cartels offering up to $50,000 bounties on ICE and Border Patrol agents. Online users, however, quickly located the original upload and pointed out that it carried a wholly unrelated caption where the group playfully targeted Iran, not American immigration officers. The clip stemmed from a private TikTok posted months earlier by a young Black creator, with no connection to U.S. law enforcement, and its alteration sparked fears for the safety of the evident minors.
The video’s presumed maker addressed the misuse in a follow-up post. “I get threats daily on IG and everywhere all over my social media all of a sudden, due to an old video I posted months ago about Iran,” he said, noting that he possesses the unaltered original footage and denied any awareness or approval of DHS involvement.
FAFO.

California Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell criticized Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, but later removed his tweet stating: “Kristi – DELETE THIS TWEET or answer for it in Congress. It’s FAKE. You’re the Queen of Photoshopping.”
A DHS spokesperson countered to The Independent: “This young man posted violent threats of murder against our law enforcement. He then deleted it when he was called out and attempted to deny all wrongdoing. We have the receipts, and the internet is forever.
“DHS did not edit, change, use AI, or in any other manner or form alter this video. It was downloaded directly from this individual’s account on Friday, October 17th after it had already acquired over 40,000 likes and hundreds of comments urging individuals to target our ICE officers.
The young man responds. @DHSgov is the real clear and present threat to the American people. With all the tech and surveillance tools at their disposal, they couldn’t tell this video was edited?
Incompetent. Racist. Dangerous. https://t.co/P1LNOFoogf pic.twitter.com/5Xs7G1mrxy
