*Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is reportedly preparing to announce his candidacy for New York City’s mayoral race.
His decision to enter the race comes four years after his resignation amid multiple allegations of sexual misconduct. Sources close to Cuomo suggest he’s positioning himself to “save” the city from political pressures related to the Trump administration, Hot New Hip Hop reports. According to CBS New York, a super PAC called “Fix the City” has been formed by friends of Cuomo to support his potential mayoral run. The super PAC aims to raise $15 million for his campaign.
Cuomo is emerging as a strong contender for the Democratic nomination, with a recent poll conducted for Tusk Strategies showing him leading at 38%, followed by Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani at 12%, and Mayor Eric Adams at 10%. Political analysts highlight Cuomo’s reputation for getting things done and his tough stance, particularly against Trump, as key factors in his appeal.
“We saw him during COVID stand up to the president, so we know he has the character to be able to go toe-to-toe on some issues with Donald Trump. So that’s not a question, and I think New Yorkers want to see a fighter. But more importantly, I think New Yorkers want to see someone who’s had a record, has the name ID that they recognize,” political expert J.C. Polanco said.
Currently, nine candidates are running in the June 24 Democratic primary; however, experts predict that Cuomo will likely make some low-polling candidates drop out if he gets into the race.

“This is going to be a long competitive race and I’m looking forward to it,” NYC Mayor Adams said. “No one who’s running for mayor right now has ever run a mayor race but Eric Adams. I know how to win.”
As Cuomo prepares for the likely challenges of entering the New York City mayoral race, he is reportedly consulting with close friends and family. Sources familiar with the matter say that Cuomo is reaching out to his inner circle, including his three adult daughters, in the final stages before officially launching his campaign, which is expected to happen this Sunday. He is gauging their support to ensure they back his decision to run, as the race is anticipated to be highly contentious.
