*NBA legend Charles Barkley recently offered fans a candid look into his unusual habit of going without underwear during his playing days, including the dramatic way he disposed of the garments.
During the Nov. 3 episode of the Manningcast podcast, Barkley said he “burned” all of his underwear years ago. “Yeah, I realized that underwear was not a necessity,” he explained to hosts Peyton and Eli Manning. “I burned all of my underwear about 30 years ago. It was a big fire, too. I’m always going commando.”
The hosts mentioned that they planned to send the retired athlete a unique gift: underwear featuring their faces on the back. “I was planning to mail it to you. I’m sorry,” Eli joked while holding up the white briefs. “I didn’t know the story about you wearing underwear before having these made, but can I still send these to you?”

Barkley responded with his trademark humor, explaining how he would display the gift. “Definitely! You know what? I will put that on my wall,” he said. “I got to get both of y’all to sign it and I promise I’ll put it somewhere prominent.”
This isn’t the first time Barkley has discussed his decision to forgo underwear. In October 2018, after Shaquille O’Neal teased him for appearing on television without them, Barkley addressed the choice when he appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
“I found that underwear—in the South, we call them drawers—were unnecessary for space in the house,” he said. “I’ve been 10 years without underwear and I feel good about it.”
