*Candace Parker has never shied away from sharing her honest take on basketball. But after her recent tier list sparked online backlash, she says the fallout hit closer to home than she expected.
As Essentially Sports reports, during the debut episode of her Post Moves podcast with co-host Aliyah Boston, the WNBA icon revealed the extent of the outrage that followed her appearance on the Complex Sports podcast. In that interview, Parker placed several players, like A’ja Wilson, Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Plum, and Breanna Stewart, into ranked tiers from S to E. Angel Reese landed in the middle.
“Then we got Angel Reese. I put her right at that C level,” Parker stated. She clarified that her ranking was based on Reese’s current role. “I think Angel Reese is fantastic at her role, which is offensive rebounding,” she said, praising the growth Reese showed in her rookie season. However, she noted, “To be above, you have to be able to have the ability to carry your team, be a 1 or 2 option.”
The backlash was immediate and personal. Parker shared that Reese’s fans not only criticized her online, but some went so far as to leave comments on her daughter’s social media pages. “All these people that are commenting under my daughter’s page about something I said is wild,” she said. “It’s like they haven’t even watched the interview.”
On the podcast, Parker emphasized that her opinions were grounded in fact, not bias. “Now, whether you agree with those facts or whether you agree with my opinions, cool. But don’t personally attack and call me something because I have an opinion.”
Candace Parker is an Angel Reese hater and it’s because of jealousy. 1st she insults Angel by calling her a c-tier player. 2nd Candace equates Angel to someone who averages 7 points and 7 rebounds for their career. 3rd Candace tries to play the victim. pic.twitter.com/jYLbgbuzTA

She stressed the importance of focusing on the game rather than attacking people with differing views. “I, in no way, shape, or form, am a hater,” she said. “But what player are you taking Angel Reese over? Of those I just listed?”
Despite the heat, Parker stood by her assessment. “I think that this is my tier. I’ve had five minutes to think about this. So, all of y’all that are going to go home and write a biography on how wrong this is, you guys can kick rocks. Signing off.”
In her final word on the matter, Parker left fans with a challenge: If Angel Reese deserves a higher rank, who should she replace?
