*Bishop T.D. Jakes announced Sunday morning that Pastors Touré Roberts and Sarah Jakes Roberts will be appointed as the new senior pastors of The Potter’s House in Dallas.
This transition will take place later in 2025, marking a significant new chapter for the renowned megachurch while maintaining the spirit of its founding leadership. Though he is stepping away from daily pastoral responsibilities, Jakes will remain Chairman of the Board and continue serving as the church’s spiritual overseer, FOX 4 reports.
Reflecting on the milestone, Jakes shared, “For nearly 50 years, I’ve had the honor of connecting with and serving the local and global community as a pastor, global faith leader and unwavering truth teller.” As he approaches five decades of ministry, he described an urgent calling to address deeper societal issues: “I recognize the urgent need to address more challenges of our time, particularly the looming threat of a disappearing middle class, social unrest and closing opportunity gaps. This pivotal moment calls me to focus on a legacy of economic empowerment, serving as a bridge between community, culture, and corporate alliances to help position our nation for a stronger future.”
Jakes emphasized that this leadership shift is not a retreat but a transformation: “This elevation is not a departure but a rebirth. I will never stop preaching and will continue to minister. This moment isn’t an ending, it’s an expansion. We are not only passing a mantle we are multiplying impact. Leadership is not static, it is dynamic. It demands the courage to evolve.”

Pastors Touré and Sarah Jakes Roberts expressed their dedication to building on Jakes’ extraordinary foundation. Pastor Touré said, “We are committed to building a ministry that carries the heart of Bishop Jakes into a future that is both faithful and forward-thinking.” Pastor Sarah echoed the sentiment, adding, “This is not just a call to serve. It’s a mandate to lead with compassion, clarity, and courage.”
The announcement comes just months after a health emergency that caught national attention. In November 2024, Bishop Jakes suffered a massive heart attack while delivering a sermon at The Potter’s House. During a March 26 interview on the Today show, he detailed the experience, sharing that a blood clot had obstructed half of his heart’s blood flow and that doctors told him he was only minutes away from death.
“I didn’t really realize what was happening to me onstage until I got to the hospital in an ambulance,” he recalled. “And the doctor leaned over in my ear and said, ‘You’ve had a massive heart attack.’” Jakes explained that he experienced no classic symptoms leading up to the event. “I just kind of drifted off to sleep. I didn’t know what it was,” he said. “[The doctor] said five minutes later I’d have been dead on arrival.”
Alongside the leadership change, Jakes is also preparing to launch a new podcast, My Next Chapter, in partnership with iHeartMedia. The project will offer deeper insight into his personal evolution and his vision for the future.
