*When Ariel Winter first stepped into the world of “The Sisters Grimm,” she knew she was joining something special. The all-new animated fantasy adventure series, based on Michael Buckley’s New York Times bestselling books, premieres globally Friday, October 3 on Apple TV+. Winter voices Sabrina, the elder of two sisters, navigating a magical town filled with fairy-tale characters while searching for their missing parents.
For Winter, the connection to Sabrina was immediate. “I think a lot of things drew me to this project, and the role of Sabrina in the world of The Sisters Grim is so incredible and magical and such a fantasy world that I love,” she shared. “And of course it has such an amazing following… who doesn’t want to be a part of something so beloved and wonderful.”
She was also deeply moved by the show’s emotional core. “We explore the fact that Sabrina and Daphne are essentially foster kids, and that’s important to me because I’ve experienced that in my life, and so has my sister, and I really appreciate that. That is something that the show covers, and I love the role of Sabrina because I love that she’s such a capable young woman.”
Bringing Sabrina’s complexity to life meant drawing from personal experiences. “I think the way that I approach that is kind of the way that I approached it in my own life,” Winter explained.
“I think it’s something that I’ve experienced, something I’ve had to go through as well, growing up a little bit fast and being put in situations that maybe were not ideal for me, and at a certain age, and then I’ve been in a lot of therapy. I think life experience has helped me navigate certain situations in a way that I can pull from to be able to use in my acting, and that has helped me with Sabrina for sure.”
The series blends mystery, fantasy, and adventure in a way that thrilled Winter throughout the recording process. “All of it was really fun to record, and getting to be included in a world like this is so cool. I would have loved to have watched this show myself when I was younger.”

Winter looks forward to fans old and new discovering the world of “The Sisters Grimm.” “I’m excited for them to experience the world that everyone on the team has created because they’ve worked so hard, and it is such a cool, immersive world that I love,” she said.
“I’m excited for the fans of the books to be able to see what they love to come to life, and hopefully, people to be able to take in the important messages we’ve tried to sprinkle into the show, and hopefully get new perspectives. There’s some really fun stuff in the show.”
Ultimately, she hopes Sabrina’s journey leaves a lasting impression on families. “That you can do hard things and also struggle, and that’s okay. You don’t always have to be strong. Even when you have to push through and make things happen that you can lean on people and you can do what needs to be done, but also feel your feelings, and that’s important, that vulnerability is important as well.”
