*Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have reached a divorce settlement, ending a prolonged and contentious separation that began in 2016.
According to reports, the agreement resolves their marital and property rights, with both parties waiving future spousal financial support. Details of the settlement remain private pending judicial approval. Custody arrangements were unnecessary for their six children, as four are adults, while the two youngest are 16-year-old twins, Knox and Vivienne. The couple’s eldest daughter, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, petitioned in July to remove Pitt’s name from hers, which was granted.
“More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt,” Jolie’s attorney, James Simon, said in a statement. “She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family. This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.”
Key disputes during the divorce included allegations of abuse, later dismissed by authorities, and the ownership of their French vineyard, Château Miraval. Pitt sued Jolie for selling her share without his consent, accusing her of vindictive behavior, while Jolie’s attorneys countered that Pitt sought to suppress abuse claims through a non-disclosure agreement. This legal battle continues despite the divorce resolution.
The couple’s decision to use a private judge kept their divorce proceedings largely out of the public eye.
Meanwhile, Jolie is earning acclaim for her recent portrayal of “Maria Callas” in a new Netflix biopic.
As we reported earlier, Jolie committed to seven months of vocal training before stepping into the role of the opera icon for the movie “Maria,” directed by Pablo Larraín. According to the synopsis, the film “follows the American-Greek soprano as she retreats to Paris after a glamorous and tumultuous life in the public eye.” The project “reimagines the legendary soprano in her final days as the diva reckons with her identity and life.”
Maria Callas, renowned for her remarkable three-octave vocal range, became a global sensation in the mid-20th century. She passed away in Paris in 1977 at the age of 53 due to a heart attack.
“Maria” is now streaming on Netflix.
