*The 2026 Essence Festival of Culture is shaping up to be a landmark moment for female artists in music.
Essence has confirmed that Cardi B, Patti LaBelle, Brandy and Monica, Kehlani, and Latto will perform at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans when the festival kicks off July 3-5, nola.com reports.
Essence has indicated that additional names will be added to the 2026 roster in the coming weeks, with tickets already available for purchase.
The Essence Music Festival, officially known as the Essence Festival of Culture, has showcased a remarkable array of artists across R&B, soul, hip-hop, funk, and gospel since its inception in 1995. Legendary performers such as Luther Vandross, Al Green, Prince, Mary J. Blige, Barry White, Etta James, Ashford & Simpson, and Teena Marie have graced its stages, while R&B stars like Alicia Keys, Usher, John Legend, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Maxwell, The Isley Brothers, and Boyz II Men have been frequent favorites.

The festival has also embraced contemporary hip-hop and modern acts, including Nas, Kendrick Lamar, Megan Thee Stallion, GloRilla, and Summer Walker, alongside other influential performers such as Pharrell Williams, Buju Banton, Babyface, and Donell Jones. Over the years, Essence has consistently blended legendary icons with current chart-toppers, creating a unique celebration of Black music, culture, and artistry.
Last year, the festival attracted attention when Lauryn Hill took the stage at approximately 2:30 a.m. In a statement defending her performance to a nearly empty stadium, Essence Festival wrote, “Family is family and around here we protect our own no matter what the people have to say…. Let’s be very clear— We don’t play about Ms. Lauryn Hill. Not for clicks. Not for headlines.”
Hill, they said, “arrived on schedule, stepped on that stage, and delivered the kind of performance only a legend can.”
Festival organizers acknowledged the delays throughout the day and accepted responsibility for Hill’s unusually late start. “The delay? Not hers. We will take that. The moment? One for the books. The legacy? Still unmatched.”
