*The holiday season gets a comedic twist with “Unexpected Christmas,” a new film starring and executive produced by Lil Rel Howery and Tabitha Brown, set for release on November 7.
“Christmas movies are literally the gift that keeps on giving,” Brown said, while Howery added, “This movie and this cast is so special and will be the holiday movie everyone will be talking about.” Per Variety, the ensemble includes Anna Maria Horsford, DomiNque Perry, Reagan Gomez-Preston, and others, promising a lively family affair.
Directed by Michael Vaughn Hernandez and written by Cassandra Mann, the movie centers on the Scott family’s chaotic holiday reunion. “Marissa tries to play it cool and invites a surprise guest of her own who has everyone talking, all while Kerry is cooking up a scheme that could ruin the whole celebration,” the synopsis reveals. The plot thickens as Melissa (Perry), fresh from a breakup, faces her ex Richard (Howery) arriving with her estranged stepsister Kerry (Gomez-Preston).
The film blends romance, rivalries, and family secrets for a festive mix of laughter and drama. “With love, laughter and a little bit of chaos around every corner, this Christmas might just bring the Scotts closer together — or blow the roof off the house!” the synopsis teases.
Produced by 3 Diamonds Entertainment’s Trell Woodberry and Phil Thornton, alongside Perri Camper, the film is a celebration of Black voices and storytelling.
