*TLC’s newest addition to its beloved 1000-LB franchise, “1000-LB Roomies,” premiered on June 3, introducing viewers to the vibrant and inseparable duo, Jasmine “Jaz” Wallace and Nesha Harris. This unfiltered, heart-filled series follows the best friends and roommates as they confront severe obesity, navigate personal struggles, and lean on their sisterhood to reclaim their health. With their combined weight nearing 1,000 pounds, Jaz and Nesha’s journey is as much about emotional healing and mutual support as it is about physical transformation.
The catalyst for their journey came when Jaz received sobering news from her doctor. “She told me I’m not going to be around long,” Jaz shared in an exclusive interview. “And that really scared me because I have a daughter. I have a 10 year old daughter and I’m a single parent. She needs me and I need her the most. So it was something that definitely lit a fire up under me and made me want to really get it together.” This life-altering moment pushed Jaz to commit to losing nearly 200 pounds, driven by her desire to be there for her daughter, Nana.
Nesha, however, approaches weight loss with caution, hesitant about surgical options. Despite their differing perspectives, the duo’s unbreakable bond keeps them united. Their journey, as depicted in “1000-LB Roomies,” is a rollercoaster of emotions. “It’s been up and down all the way around,” Jaz said. “It’s been good. It’s been bad. It’s been horrible. It’s been fantastic. It’s definitely a journey.”
Documenting their transformation on a public platform adds both pressure and purpose. For Jaz, it’s a chance to inspire others. “It makes me put an “S” on my chest because I want other women and other men that are suffering with severe obesity like myself to know they’re not in this by themselves,” she said.
“Every day is not going to be a salad day for me. I’m going to have my days where I want a burger. I’m going to have my days where I’m emotionally eating. But we all in this together. It’s all a fight and we’re going to get to our goals,” Jaz added.
Nesha echoed the sentiment of accountability, noting how the visibility of the show keeps her motivated. “It holds you accountable because at first I was just like, man, whatever,” she admitted. “But then I’m like, oh, wow, like all these people are counting on me to actually make a change. So it’s not something that I just say that I’m going to do. It’s like, no, you actually have to put action behind those words.” She humorously added, “I’m nervous to be going through a drive-through. And they be like, you ain’t supposed to be here.”
Beyond the scale, “1000-LB Roomies” is a celebration of sisterhood, self-love, and second chances. Nesha hopes viewers take away a message of compassion: “For me personally, never judge a book by its cover because you never know what the person next to you is going through or have gone through. You never know why I’m here or why I am this size. So to just have a little more compassion and grace for other people, honestly.” Jaz reinforced this, emphasizing acceptance: “In America, you could be accepted by anything. You just can’t be fat. So we hoping to change the bar on that.
For those feeling stuck, Jaz and Nesha offer heartfelt advice. “It’s like you just got to do it. You got to just rip that band-aid off,” Nesha said. “If you feel like some steps are too big, take baby steps. What are the baby steps that you can take to start to reach your goals?

Jaz added a spiritual perspective: “I will let them know that everything is achievable. Anything and everything is achievable as long as you have faith. As long as you have that faith in yourself and in God, it can happen.”
Their story is deeply personal, with Nesha hinting at the emotional depth to come. “I have a really deep story,” she shared. “So I’m excited to be able to have a platform to share some deep stuff. I know it’s a lot of people out there that have gone through some of the same things that I’ve gone through. So I really want to be able to let people know you’re not alone.”
Jaz urged viewers to prioritize their health: “Listen to your body and take your health very serious. It’s a lot that’s going to happen this season that is crazy. I really hope that it motivates so many people to like really get their selves together and know, like, please listen to your body. Please.”
