*Lil Wayne has revealed that he was completely out of the loop when Kendrick Lamar dissed Drake during the Super Bowl LIX halftime show.
Wayne insists he had no idea there was tension between the two rappers. In an interview with Rolling Stone, the hip-hop star shared his frustrations about the whole situation, including how he was persuaded by the NFL to get more involved in the celebrity scene, but ultimately felt misled by the organization.
Wayne had been campaigning for the coveted Super Bowl halftime performance spot in New Orleans for over a year, only to be left disappointed when the opportunity was given to Lamar. Reflecting on the experience, he explained how the NFL had pressured him into attending high-profile events, which took him out of his comfort zone.
“To perform, it’s a bunch of things they’re going to tell you to do and not do, asses to kiss and not kiss,” Wayne told the publication. He added that he wasn’t willing to play along with the NFL’s expectations, saying, “I ain’t Drake. I ain’t out there smiling like that everywhere. I’m in the stu’, smokin’ and recording.”
Wayne also revealed that the NFL contacted him directly, clarifying that they weren’t in charge of the Super Bowl show, shifting the blame to Jay-Z and Roc Nation instead.

As for the Super Bowl halftime show, Wayne claims he was unaware that the Lamar’s hit song was meant as a diss, despite a video showing him rapping the chorus of “Not Like Us” in Vegas at Zouk.
“I went onstage and I was singing this song, and they thought I was dissing … I ain’t want [Drake] to be mad at me,” Wayne explained.
“I ain’t want my dude to be mad at me. I didn’t even know it was Kendrick!” He added, “If it don’t happen on [ESPN] or FS1, I wouldn’t know that happened.”
Earlier this year, Skip Bayless revealed that the NFL allegedly apologized to Lil Wayne after choosing Kendrick for the Super Bowl halftime show, a decision that upset fans, particularly because of Wayne’s strong ties to New Orleans.
Lamar’s performance received mixed reviews, with some even calling it one of the worst in Super Bowl history. Bayless, a close friend of Wayne, claimed that the NFL sent an apology letter to Weezy in September, thanking him for his years of support for the league, including promoting teams like the Packers.
“I mean, he makes weekly appearances on the NFL’s Sunday pregame show, ‘NFL GameDay Morning’ on the NFL Network,” Bayless said on his YouTube show..
“But he will not play Sunday’s halftime show, and he definitely won’t watch a second of Sunday’s halftime show,” Bayless added. “He will watch the game, just not the halftime show. Not one second.”
Furthermore, Bayles revealed that the Super Bowl Halftime Show snub devastated Weezy.
“When the news first broke, it hit Wayne hard,” the sports analyst continued. “He didn’t feel like doing much of anything for several long days and nights. He’s better now.”
Meanwhile, Lil Wayne has promised fans that his upcoming album, Carter VI, will drop in June.
