*Hollywood icon Keanu Reeves will return to the upcoming “John Wick: Chapter 5.”
In a stunning announcement at CinemaCon on Tuesday, Lionsgate confirmed that Reeves will reprise his role and will once again join forces with director Chad Stahelski, as well as producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, EW reports.
“Keanu, Chad, Basil, and Erica would not return unless they had something truly phenomenal and fresh to say with these characters and this world,” said Adam Fogelson, chair of Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group, in a statement. “We can’t wait for audiences to see where the journey takes us next.”
The news follows the ambiguous ending of 2023’s John Wick: Chapter 4, where Wick seemingly met his demise. However, one key moment—a shot of his loyal dog looking back at his grave—left the door open for speculation.
Stahelski has previously hinted at alternative conclusions to the film, revealing that they deliberately left room for interpretation.

“We had a different ending,” Stahelski told Empire in 2023. “We shot an ending where you actually saw John Wick at the end of the movie. So it was very clear that he was still alive. The audiences we tested with absolutely preferred the ambiguous ending.”
While Reeves has expressed his love for the character, he has also acknowledged the physical toll of the action-heavy franchise.
“”You can never say never — but my knees right now are saying, ‘You can’t do another John Wick,'” said Reeves in a past interview. “So my heart [wants to], but I don’t know if my knees can do it.”
In addition to the highly anticipated sequel, a spin-off centered on Donnie Yen’s character, Caine, is officially in the works, with Yen himself set to direct and star. Fans can also look forward to the next installment of the “John Wick” franchise with “Ballerina,” starring Ana de Armas, set to hit theaters on June 6.
No release dates have been announced for “John Wick: Chapter 5” or the spin-offs.
