*Eddie Murphy impersonated fellow comedian Tracy Morgan during the Black Jeopardy sketch on Saturday Night Live’s 50th-anniversary special over the weekend.
The skit, a throwback to a popular past segment, featured Kenan Thompson reprising his role as host Darnell Hayes. Morgan and former cast member Leslie Jones appeared as fictional contestants.
Murphy, introduced as Morgan, wore a flashy red satin jacket and an oversized gold medallion similar to one Morgan was previously spotted wearing. “Big dog gonna make some big money!” Murphy-as-Morgan said, and his spot-on impression had the audience in stitches.
Thompson replied, “Don’t you already have a lot of money?” Murphy/Morgan clapped back: “You gotta have a lot of money if you’re going to live like I live. I eat four-cheese lasagna! If it only got three cheeses, I ain’t eatin’ it. I refuse to ingest three cheeses!”

NBC’s star-studded SNL event featured numerous celebrities, including Alec Baldwin, Billy Crystal, Cher, Eddie Murphy, Amy Poehler, and many more, all celebrating the iconic sketch show. According to Variety, the special drew an impressive 14.8 million viewers across NBC and Peacock on Sunday night. This marks a 202% increase from the show’s season 50 average of 4.9 million viewers, which itself was up 13% from the previous season.
The network reported that the show was the most-watched primetime entertainment broadcast in five years, since the 2020 Golden Globes.
Meanwhile, Peacock is also streaming Ladies & Gentleman … 50 Years of SNL Music, a three-hour special co-directed by Oz Rodriguez and Questlove of The Roots. The three-hour special promises “untold stories behind the culture-defining, groundbreaking and news-making musical performances, sketches and cameos of the past 50 years.”
