*Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson let White Republicans In Louisiana use him to get votes for amendments that could hurt Black residents. Republicans produced a PSA featuring Jackson in hopes that his popularity would influence voters to vote against their interests.
The state legislature wants to have more control over whether a child’s criminal charges are elevated to adult status, which means adult punishment. Another amendment was supposed to lower taxes for certain property owners. That’s where “Curtis Elon Musk Jackson” comes in. He has a lease agreement in Shreveport to build a production studio. So, the entertainment mogul was all for lowering property taxes in the state.
But here’s the gag: Area activists in Louisiana wanted residents to vote NO on the amendments. Had 50 Cent bothered to ask someone else other than rich White Republicans he might have known that. There’s a reason why a growing number of residents in Louisiana don’t trust the governor or the legislature. First, the state ranks at or near the bottom in at least eight national categories, including crime, education, the economy and healthcare. Secondly, Gov. Jeff Landry got caught on a hot mic talking about why he hoped for low voter turnout.
Back in November Jackson said he preferred to stay out of politics, referring to Donald Trump’s $3 million offer for Jackson to perform at his second presidential inauguration. But he didn’t take his own advice when it came to Louisiana. Let’s talk about it.
