*In a candid moment during the premiere of the Braxton family’s new WeTV series, “The Braxtons,” Towanda Braxton opened up about her health, addressing rumors and misconceptions that have surrounded her for quite some time.
The episode, which aired on Friday, August 9, 2024, delved deep into the concerns of fans who had speculated about Towanda’s well-being, especially after she adopted a bald look following the tragic death of her sister, Traci Braxton, from cancer in 2022.
Towanda’s candid conversation with her younger sister, Trina Braxton, brought light to the reasoning behind her bald appearance. She revealed that her new look had led fans to question whether she was also battling a serious illness.
“A lot of people was sending me messages saying, ‘Oh my god, is Towanda sick? Is Towanda sick? Oh my god, is she sick too?’”
In the heartfelt discussion, Towanda shared the touching backstory of how all the Braxton sisters decided to cut their hair in a show of solidarity during Traci’s cancer battle. However, in a playful moment, she called out Trina for not joining in, with Trina humorously admitting that a bald look wouldn’t suit her round face, which she inherited from their mother, Evelyn Braxton, reports theJasmineBrand.
Towanda went on to disclose a deeply personal struggle that had influenced her decision to go bald. During a confessional interview, she revealed:
“I hadn’t exactly told the world that I have alopecia. A lot of people assume a lot of different things. I took pride in how I looked and I have to be honest, I didn’t think about my body. It was what was going on in the inside. That was ‘Oh my god, people are gonna know that I have alopecia. Oh my god, maybe people aren’t going to like me anymore.’”
When probed by Trina on how she feels about her alopecia diagnosis now, Towanda’s response was resolute and empowering.
“I am who I am. You accept me or you just don’t accept me. It’s a part of who I am. I have alopecia and that’s just it,” she stated.
The episode also included a poignant and emotional clip of Traci Braxton in her final days, lovingly rubbing Towanda’s head. This intimate moment underscored the deep bond shared between the sisters and the silent strength they exhibited during trying times. Trina Braxton shared in her confessional interview that Traci had always shown affection by rubbing Towanda’s head, especially when Towanda experienced patches and hair loss. Towanda had expressed a desire to cut her hair, and Traci had been the one to encourage her sisters to join in solidarity.
The premiere episode of The Braxtons ended on an emotional note, with a teaser featuring Trina holding back tears, promising viewers a season filled with raw honesty, unbreakable family bonds, and heartfelt moments.
Through it all, Towanda Braxton’s brave revelation about her alopecia stands as a testament to the importance of self-acceptance and the unyielding support of family.
