*An immigrant on TikTok is sharing advice with fellow illegals on how to “occupy” vacant residences and assert squatter’s rights in America.
Leonel Moreno, a Venezuelan national who boasts a following of 500,000, said in a recent video that under US law, “if a house is not inhabited, we can seize it.”
According to the New York Post, Moreno lives in a suburb of Columbus, Ohio, and his viral TikTok clip has drawn more than 3.9 million views. In the video, he brags that his “African friends” have “already taken about seven homes.”
Moreno encourages fellow immigrants to “occupy” vacant homes to avoid becoming a “burden” while homeless.
Numerous TikTok users expressed outrage at his message advocating for squatting.

As The Post reports, squatter laws exist in all 50 states, providing trespassers with various protections if they legally occupy a residence. These laws complicate the eviction process for property owners.
Recently, a homeowner in New York was arrested after trying to take back her multi-million dollar home from squatters.
Dr. Ben Carson, the former U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, weighed in on the squatters laws on Fox Business.
“We’ve kind of lost our minds,” he remarked. “Squatter’s rights? You’ve got to be kidding me. Squatters don’t have any rights. They have no right to be in your house. What are they going to have next? Trespasser’s rights? That makes no sense whatsoever.”
In New York City, people who remain on a property for 30 days can claim squatter’s rights.
