*We spoke to “Outer Banks” stars Carlacia Grant and Madison Bailey to get the inside scoop on what’s in store for Season 4.
The paired opened up about the twists and challenges their characters, Cleo and Kiara, will face, as well as the evolving dynamics within the beloved Pogues crew. They also teased deeper storylines and the character growth fans can expect as the stakes are raised in the latest season of Netflix’s hit series.
The first half of “Outer Banks” Season 4 debuted October 10 with part 2 slated to premiere on November 7. Grant and Baily star alongside an ensemble cast that includes Chase Stokes (John B.), Madelyn Cline (Sarah Cameron), Jonathan Daviss (Pope), Rudy Pankow (JJ), Drew Starkey (Rafe), Austin North (Topper), Fiona Palomo (Sofia), J. Anthony Crane (Chandler Groff), Pollyanna McIntosh (Dalia), Brianna Brown (Hollis Robinson), Rigo Sanchez (Lightner), Mia Challis (Ruthie) and Cullen Moss (Shoupe).
Here’s the synopsis: Following last season’s 18-month flash-forward showing Wes Genrette’s proposal for the Pogues to find Blackbeard’s treasure, Season 4 takes us back in time to the lead-up of that moment. After finding the gold at El Dorado, the Pogues return to the OBX and commit to having a “normal” life. They’ve built themselves a new safe haven, officially dubbed “Poguelandia 2.0”, where they live together and run a fairly successful bait, tackle, and charter tour shop. But after some financial setbacks, John B, Sarah, Kiara, JJ, Pope, and Cleo take Wes up on his offer, drawn back into the “G” game for a whole new adventure. But before they know it, they’re well in over their heads, with dangerous new enemies hot on their heels racing them to the treasure. Meanwhile, their problems are only growing, and they’re forced to question their past, present, and future – who they really are, has it all been worth it, and how much are they willing to risk?

Speaking of her character’s journey this season, Carlacia said, “I think Cleo finds her way right away. I think everyone has their tasks at Poguelandia and she’s making the menu, she’s in the kitchen, she’s doing hot spicy stuff. I think she picks up feeling very comfortable being back…we now have all this money. So we’re trying to flip it into something. I think she finds her way right away. And then as the season goes on, there’s a lot of ups and downs and moments that test her relationships.”
Cleo and Pope developed a close bond in the previous season, so we asked Carlacia how their relationship evolves in season two while balancing a normal life after coming into all this money.
“It gets even deeper,” she shared. “We are faced with tragedy in our relationship and we have to figure out how to balance each other, how to stay together if we stay together. I think we have to learn how to love each other in different ways than we were before and mature. This is our first time living together… with all our friends, frat house. So we just have to figure that part out.”
Madison said her character Kiara “jumped into the treasure hunts with little to no questions asked.”
“I think it’s really important to her to always be there for her friends and maybe prove her friendship consistently,” she added, noting that part of Kiara’s journey this season is “playing catch up” with her boo thang JJ.
“I think a lot of her journey this season is playing catch up with him and trying to keep up and be there for him through everything that he’s going through.”
Madison added, “This is the first season you’re seeing them in full as a couple. We have a moment on the pier where I think gives a little more insight into what our relationship has been like. I think you get the idea that they’re not the most romantic and traditional,” she explained. “I think you get a glimpse of how their friendship was always at the heart of their relationship. And that’s really what drives these two.”
