
*Nicki Minaj’s younger sister, Ming Luanli (also known as Ming Li), is carving out her path as a rapper independently of the Grammy-winning artist.
As Vibe reports, during Ming Luanli’s, 18, appearance on the We In Miami podcast, spoke about her estranged relationship with Minaj. She mentioned that although they share the same father and have different mothers, and were “never close.”
“I’ve never called her Nicki, by her name, at all. Calling her Nicki always felt weird, I’ve always called her Onika, too,” Ming Luanli revealed.
“But we was never close, but we had a good bond,” she added. “She was always, like, busy. She be busy and stuff like that, I be doing my sh*t, too. But at the end of the day, I know that I still got love for her, she still got love for me, and I’mma still be proud of her,” Ming Li added.
The budding rapper said she was in elementary school when her peers began to notice she was related to the hip-hop star.

“In elementary, middle school, high school, the moment people knew who I was, it was either like they would ask me about my sister or ask me, like, just weird things that’s gonna make me feel uncomfortable,” Ming recalled. “At the time, I felt not only attacked, I felt vulnerable. I felt like I was by myself.”
She admitted that she was bullied for being related to Nicki Minaj.
“I used to be bullied a lot for it,” she shared. “Because people used to say, ‘If this person was your sister, why didn’t she do this for you? Why didn’t she do that for you.’ At a young age, you don’t know how to answer questions like those. At the time, I felt not only attacked, I felt vulnerable. I felt like I was by myself.”

Earlier this year, Ming Luanli also dropped the single “Thinking Bout U,” featuring Iz LaMarr and Masika Kalysha. She previously spoke about her process as a new artist in the music industry.
“So, basically, as I’m going to start my music career further on, I will no longer be known as Nicki Minaj’s little sister,” Ming Luanli explained. “I am known as Ming Luanli. And right now I’m going to do big things with myself without having to get secret help, any type of easy help. I’m going to work my way to the top.”
