I read a headline the day before the election that said: ‘America Is Ready For Kamala Harris.’ Obviously, they got it wrong. When it comes to politics and the justice system in America, nothing has changed but the date on the calendar. White men have the privilege to have the worst character, the worst reputation, and be the worst example of civility, but still be seen as the best option.
As we gather around the table during the holiday season to break bread with people we thought we knew best, some people should admit many of our friends and family have starkly different views on what leadership looks like and what accountability looks like.
Apparently, for the majority of Americans who voted in this election, leadership always will look like a white man no matter his age or obvious declining health, his lack of character, or his criminal background. For the millions of people who voted for Donald Trump, he is their avatar. He says and does what they wish they could say and do.
