*It’s been one week, two weeks, three weeks, and one day since Joe Biden stepped aside, and the burning question remains: Where is Kamala Harris? According to Stephen A. Smith, the celebrated sports media personality, the answer isn’t satisfactory.
In the weeks following Biden’s decision to exit the 2024 Presidential race on July 21 and endorse his Vice President, Kamala Harris, her visibility has been almost exclusively limited to pep rallies. This absence from more critical forums has prompted Smith to speak up, echoing the frustrations of many conservatives.
“What’s up? Somebody’s got to say something, and it can’t just be the conservatives. Right is right,” Smith declared passionately on his popular podcast this week. His words strike a chord, particularly among those who feel the Vice President should address the nation more transparently.
“I’m talking to my sister here. Come on now. You’re running for the presidency of the United States of America. You got my vote. You’re running for the presidency of the United States of America. What you hiding for? And I mean hiding in plain sight. Somebody gotta say it. Somebody gotta say it,” Smith continued, clearly exasperated.
Smith’s remarks underline a broader issue: the lack of a single press conference or one-on-one sit-down interview since Harris took up the mantle. “You can’t be running for the presidency of the United States, not one single press conference. Not one single one-on-one sit-down interview where somebody gets to question you about the questions that we ask. That’s not fair. That’s not fair,” he lamented.

Criticism isn’t just coming from conservative corners. While Harris has been actively campaigning across battleground states and rising in polls, her media silence is becoming a bipartisan concern.
“If you’re a conservative and you’re out there lambasting her for it, ridiculing her for it, trying to torment her for it or whatever, it is perfectly within your right to do so. All of you anti-conservatives out there shut the hell up! That’s a valid point,” Smith asserted.
He was quick, however, to draw a clear line, admonishing those who would critique Harris based on her race or heritage.
“It ain’t valid to bring up her Blackness, or Indian heritage, and to try to point the finger at that nature. That’s nonsense. But to ask her about her record because she is attached to the Biden record is definitely apropos, especially when you were bragging about the record!”
CNN: “Would it kill you guys to have a press conference?”
KAMALA SPOX: “You saw the ways in which they went across the battleground states.”
CNN: “A campaign rally is not a press conference. She’s the Vice President. She can handle the questions.”

As the debate intensifies, the Harris campaign has been pressed for answers regarding her lack of media availability. A campaign spokesperson assured the public that Harris has been focused on engaging directly with voters at rallies, while also promising a sit-down interview before the month’s end.
With the clock ticking and the criticism mounting, the spotlight is now on Kamala Harris to step up and address the nation through more formal channels. The public, it seems, won’t be satisfied with rally speeches alone.
