*In a decisive response, Vice President Kamala Harris firmly rejected former President Donald Trump‘s invitation to debate on Fox News, while accusing him of backing out of a prior commitment to an ABC debate. Harris labeled Trump as running scared, criticizing his decision to avoid the originally agreed-upon ABC debate set for September 10.
According to a source familiar with the matter, Harris is planning to attend the ABC debate even if Trump does not. ABC News has yet to provide an official comment regarding their plans should only one candidate show up, but it is anticipated that airtime would still be provided to Harris.
Trump announced late Friday that he had agreed to participate in a Fox News debate on September 4, thus reneging on his commitment to the ABC debate. That prompted the responses from the Harris camp. Michael Tyler, Harris’s campaign communications director, issued a statement Saturday morning, calling out Trump for what he described as evasive behavior.
“Donald Trump is running scared and trying to back out of the debate he already agreed to and running straight to Fox News to bail him out,” Tyler said in a statement on Saturday. “He needs to stop playing games and show up to the debate he already committed to on September 10. The vice president will be there one way or the other to take the opportunity to speak to a prime-time national audience.”
Tyler emphasized that the Harris team is open to discussing additional debates after the one that both campaigns have already agreed to. He further challenged Trump by referencing his past “anytime, anywhere, anyplace” debate stance, suggesting that Trump should have no problem showing up for the debate unless he is too scared to face Harris.

As the date approaches, the political arena remains tense with anticipation on whether Trump will reconsider his withdrawal from the ABC debate or maintain his commitment to the Fox News event.
