*Although the world would be a sadder place without Eddie Murphy, his fans could take comfort knowing he already has a song in mind to soundtrack his homegoing (which he doesn’t plan to have).
People reports Murphy jokingly revealed his tune of choice during an interview with reporter Kevin McCarthy that was recently posted to Instagram.
So what is it?
The theme song to his classic ’80s blockbuster “Beverly Hills Cop,” “Axel F,” of course.
As the chat progressed, Murphy confessed that he actually didn’t want a funeral so much as having music from one of his most successful projects playing to make people “smile.”
Ever the comedian, Murphy reenacted his own acapella version of the theme as he touched on how it should be played as he’s buried.
“That’s just a joke, ’cause I’m never having a funeral,” the “Mr. Church” star shared, later clarifying, “I mean, I’m gonna die like everyone else. But [my loved ones] know…no funeral. Just let me go quietly.”
Murphy’s comments come as he promotes his latest feature. “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.” The fourth installment in the action-comedy franchise, which is currently streaming on Netflix after its July 3 release, finds the “Coming To America” fixture reprising his role as Axel Foley, a cop who returns to Beverly Hills after his daughter’s life is threatened.
“Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” is a welcome option for movie nostalgic move fans who last got their Axel fix with the third film in the “Beverly Hills Cop” series, 1994’s “Beverly Hills Cop III.” since the third film was released.
With his success as Axel Foley and his adventures, Murphy found himself fielding questions on how he feels about playing “the Black James Bond.” To those folk, the “Party All The Time” entertainer responded with a solid co-sign of his popular crimefighter.
“I don’t have to be some Black James Bond,” Murphy told McCarthy. “I have Axel Foley and he has theme music and everything.”
