*“Shark Tank” investor Barbara Corcoran shared that she and her husband, Bill Higgins, have maintained separate bedrooms for years, which she believes adds excitement to their relationship.
Corcoran enjoys “inviting” her husband into her bedroom, and she rarely visits his space unless asked. Despite common concerns that separate sleeping arrangements could harm intimacy, Corcoran explained on The Jamie Kern Lima Show that it enhances their connection.
Corcoran and Higgins have been together for over 40 years and she emphasized that the key to a successful marriage is accepting your partner as they are, advising against marrying with hopes of changing someone, Cheat Sheet reports.
“My idea of a special night with my husband is a good game of Scrabble,” the businesswoman told Lima. “He’ll often say to me ‘S or S?’ and I’ll say, ‘Scrabble’ because the first ‘S’ means sex, and I say, ‘No, Scrabble.’
“I love beating him at Scrabble, and he loves beating me at Scrabble, and that’s a great night,” she continued.
Corcoran also revealed that maintaining her own “private space” adds a “sexiness” to their marriage.
“I have to invite him into my bedroom, and I like it that way,” she said. “He’s never invited me back ’cause he knows I’ll never come into his bedroom, but I have to invite him into my bedroom.”
The couple are parents to two children, Tom, 30, and Kate, 19. Corcoran, who was unable to have biological children, had Tom through IVF and adopted Kate.
“I had my first child at 46 and my second at 56,” she wrote in a 2016 Facebook post. “The most frequent compliment I get is ‘You have a lovely grandchild!'”
