*Amanda Seales, acclaimed actress, comedian, and activist, is back with a brand-new one-woman show, “What Would The Ancestors Say?,” set to premiere via livestream on Saturday, November 2nd.

This unique production, presented by her Smart, Funny & Black Productions, promises to be an engaging and thought-provoking exploration of Black America’s past, present, and future, viewed through the lens of those who paved the way.

“What Would The Ancestors Say?” combines Seales’ signature wit and intellect to examine the state of Black America today, channeling the spirits of ancestral icons to ask: “What would our forebears think of our current society?”

The one-woman performance aims not only to entertain but to educate and empower audiences to step boldly into the legacies left by those who fought for freedom, justice, and equality. Through an eclectic blend of stand-up, poetry, song, and character portrayals, Seales brings history and social commentary to life, raising poignant questions about topics ranging from the legacy of the Black Panthers to the state of current political figures.

Across 90 minutes of sharp humor and cultural insight, Seales delves into issues like “What would Harriet Tubman think looking down at today’s USA?,” “How did the Panthers pick their iconic berets?” and “What would make Harriet Tubman consider shooting some folks if she returned today?” With her trademark ability to “tell the truth and make it funny,” Seales invites viewers into a dynamic, relevant conversation about identity, history, and the future of Black culture.

A Multi-Talented “Artistic Intellectual”

Amanda Seales, a Columbia University graduate with a Master’s degree in African American Studies, has long been influential in media and entertainment. Known for blending humor with rigorous academic insight, Seales uses her multifaceted talents—as a comedian, actress, writer, and radio personality—to create projects under her independent entity, Smart, Funny & Black Productions. Her previous credits include the role of Tiffany DuBois on HBO’s hit series “Insecure,” her HBO stand-up special “I Be Knowin,” co-hosting “The Real,” and hosting NBC’s “Bring the Funny.”

Her work on the 2020 BET Awards also showcased her sharp voice and unique perspective on Black culture and politics.

A dedicated advocate for social justice, Seales’ work extends beyond the stage and screen to her popular Instagram platform, her podcast “Small Doses,” and her book by the same name. She is also the creator and host of the variety game show “Smart Funny & Black,” celebrating Black culture and history that has toured the nation.

Her influence continues with “The Amanda Seales Show,” a syndicated radio program reaching top markets such as Washington D.C., Houston, and Philadelphia, along with various podcast platforms.

Focused on the Future
Although Seales has faced public challenges—including a much-discussed beef with “Insecure” producer and co-star Issa Rae—she remains focused on her mission to entertain, uplift, and challenge. Recently addressing the public controversy with Rae, Seales noted that her commitment to protecting others in the industry has sometimes backfired. However, she has put this conflict behind her and is now focused on bringing her voice to critical conversations through “What Would The Ancestors Say?” with incisive takes on topics ranging from Clarence Thomas to Palestine and the evolution of hip-hop.

Amanda Seales’  new one-woman show “What Would The Ancestors Say? is a timely reminder of the strength and resilience of Black cultural heritage, a call to stand in the light of those who came before us. Through her unique style, she’s creating a new blueprint for multi-hyphenate creatives to express themselves in ways that are as empowering as they are entertaining. The show premieres on November 2nd.
