Radioscope Reheat: What LaTocha said to us about Xscape in 1996

LaTocha Scott argues on Bravo's SWV & XSCAPE: The Queens of R&B

*With the members of Xscape back on TV in yet another reunion reality series, we must dust off this moment in celebration: a Radioscope segment on the quartet that aired in 1996.

At the time, the ladies were promoting their second studio album, “Off the Hook,” and the group appeared to be getting along. Kandi Burruss talked about the shock of the album’s first single “Who Can I Run To” crossing over to the pop chart, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle explained why their producer and So So Def label head Jermaine Dupri was “harder on us” for this album, and LaTocha Scott, the one with the most resistence over reuniting in the current Bravo series, “SWV & XSCAPE: The Queens of R&B, said of the group in ’96, “We’re not gonna change, I hope we don’t change.”

Just two years later, the group was no more. A 2015 episode of TV One’s “Unsung” confirmed many of the rumors that had followed the breakup in subsequent years, including group member LaTocha being disgruntled over the amount of leads Jermaine gave to Kandi, and Tamika Scott’s infamous insistence on a radio show that it was because Kandi and Jermaine were hooking up. Both Kandi and Jermaine have since declared that their dalliances had nothing to do with the group disbanding.

Per the latest episode of “SWV & Xscape: The Queens of R&B,” the Scott sisters are on the outs after LaTocha accused Tamika of body-shaming her in a text. Watch below:

In the midst of their persistent turmoil, we harken back to a simpler time … when relationships among all four members of Xscape were as harmonious as their vocals, or at least appeared to be.

Listen to our Radioscope segment on Xscape as it originally aired on January 6, 1996, followed by current clips surrounding their latest reunion.
