*As Nicole Linton‘s long-awaited murder trial approaches later this month, the families of the six people killed in the devastating Windsor Hills crash are preparing to honor their loved ones while renewing their call for justice.
Project Islamic Hope will host its annual Slauson 6 Community Memorial Barbecue on Tuesday, Aug. 4, at 4 p.m. near the site of the Aug. 4, 2022, tragedy. Organizers say this year’s gathering carries added significance as Linton’s criminal trial is scheduled to begin Aug. 31 after years of delays.
The memorial honors Nathesia Lewis, Lynette Noble, Asherey Ryan, 1-year-old Alonzo Quintero, Reynold Lester, and Ryan’s unborn son, Armani Lester, whose lives were cut short in one of Los Angeles’ deadliest traffic crashes in recent years.
Prosecutors allege Linton drove through a red light at more than 100 miles per hour before crashing into multiple vehicles. She was arrested at the scene and has been charged with six counts of murder.

A Memorial That Has Become a Movement
Civil rights activist Najee Ali, director of Project Islamic Hope, has stood alongside the victims’ families since the day of the crash, helping organize annual memorials while advocating for justice and continued public support.
Beyond the yearly barbecue, Ali founded the Slauson 6 Memorial Bench and Community Garden, a permanent tribute located near the crash site on land donated by Rocket. The memorial has become a place where family members, friends and community supporters gather to remember the victims throughout the year.
With the criminal trial now on the horizon, organizers say this year’s event is intended to unite the community before court proceedings begin and encourage supporters to stand with the families throughout the legal process.
“For four years, these families have carried unimaginable pain while waiting for justice,” Ali said. “This annual memorial is our promise that their loved ones will never be forgotten. As Nicole Linton’s trial approaches, we call upon our community to stand with these families in court and remind them that they are not alone. Justice delayed has been painful, but together we will continue to honor the Slauson 6 and demand accountability.”
Community members are being encouraged to attend the trial when it begins, demonstrating continued solidarity with families who have spent years waiting for the criminal case to move forward.
Dr. Cheyenne Bryant Joins the Effort
This year’s memorial is presented with support from the Dr. Bryant Foundation, founded by life coach, author and mental health expert Dr. Cheyenne Bryant.
Bryant said supporting the families is about ensuring they continue to feel surrounded by compassion as they navigate another emotional chapter in the case.
“Some losses leave a silence that words can never fill,” Bryant said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to honor the beautiful lives of Asherey Ryan, her unborn son Armani Lester, Alonzo Quintero, Reynold Lester, Nathesia Lewis, and Lynette Noble.”
She added that she hopes “love, community, and compassion continue to surround every family, reminding them they do not have to carry this unimaginable grief alone.”
“When words can no longer heal, love and support must become our language,” Bryant said. “It is a true honor to stand beside these families, because love is the most powerful light when it shows up in someone else’s darkest moment. May these precious souls never be forgotten, and may their memories forever live on in all of our hearts.”
Founded in 2016, the Dr. Bryant Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving youth, families and underserved communities through educational resources, life-skills training, school supplies, food assistance and other support programs.
Looking Toward Justice
For the families of the Slauson 6, this year’s memorial is both a day of remembrance and a reminder that their pursuit of justice continues.
Community members, faith leaders, elected officials and supporters are invited to attend the gathering to honor the victims, comfort their loved ones and reaffirm a shared commitment to seeing the criminal case through.
The Slauson 6 Community Memorial Barbecue will be held Tuesday, Aug. 4, beginning at 4 p.m. at 4700 W. Slauson Ave. in Los Angeles.
