Swizz Beatz & Son Nasir Explore Car Culture in ‘Drive with Swizz Beatz’ Docuseries | WATCH

“Drive with Swizz Beatz” is the new six-part docuseries dropping today on Hulu!

The series is hosted by the legendary Swizz Beatz, known for his contributions to Hip-Hop culture, including production for artists like Beyonce, Jay-Z, and Drake, along with his oldest son Nasir Dean.

The two will travel to car-loving destinations across the globe, including Houston, Japan, Los Angeles, and Saudi Arabia, where they will dive into the area’s signature car culture and other surprises.

EUR spoke with Swizz and Dean about how the show brought the two of them even closer, and how patience and discipline tie that together.

The series starts in “our culture’s backyard, LA, Houston, Atlanta, New York City. And then we also wanted to show people that we were global-minded and wanted them to think globally-minded by going to Saudi Arabia and Japan. From that, we’re just going to keep expanding,” shared Swizz.

Swizz is known for his love of cars and has an enviable collection. Through this process, his son Nasir only began developing an appreciation for automotive culture.

“I wasn’t interested in cars at all,” said the younger Dean, “and then every single moment we spent on the show was me growing the passion, liking to see the details of cars. But even more than that, I saw why and how people dedicated their whole lives to focusing on that specific craft. And that’s actually what got me into liking cars, was seeing how much people cared about their car. You know, how you’re in a neighborhood, and you see a person really taking care of their car, washing it, and having it so shiny for whenever they drive it whenever they bring it out. That’s what we experienced with “Drive.””

Swizz shared that through this series, he developed a deeper appreciation for patience and discipline, “when you’ve seen the process, for example, in Japan, I loved a low rider. Of course, I was shopping while we were filming the show, but when it wasn’t for sale. Like, out of the question. When I asked, how much is this? Would you ever sell this? But in Japan, nothing was for sale. And then one guy comes over and whispers to me and says it’s not that it’s not for sale, it’s that he built his by hand. It took him ten years to build this. I said, right, ten years.”

Swizz continued, “but then you started seeing this at other places we went to. People really put their time into things. And they’re not for sale. That’s them exercising discipline and patience because it wasn’t about the money and even watching them compete for the hot rods; they compete for a $100 trophy. It’s not about the trophy; it’s about them creating a situation where the community comes together, and they spend time building this thing. The trophy is just the ticket showing that that mission is completed. And then they’re going to go back and start another mission. So that’s the passion, discipline, and patience I learned for sure.”
