Stephanie Mills Makes Feature Debut in ‘Pride’ on Lifetime: ‘Being Prideful is So Dangerous’ | EUR Exclusive

*We caught up with music icon Stephanie Mills to dish about her feature film debut in the new Lifetime original film, “Pride: A Seven Deadly Sins Story.”

Mills portrays a ruthless reality tv star and restaurant owner in the movie inspired by true events. The film will remind you of the former OWN series “Sweetie Pies” with series star Miss Robbie and her troubled son Tim Norman. In March, Norman was sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of killing his nephew in a murder-for-hire plot.

Per the official synopsis: “Pride: A Seven Deadly Sins Story tells the story of reality TV star Birdie Moore  (Mills), whose carefully constructed world starts to crumble — like the baked goods that catapulted her to fame — when her family secrets are brought to light. To salvage her legacy, Birdie must let go of the pride that estranged her from her daughter. Birdie’s pride also prevents her from seeing that her son Gabe Moore (Thomas “Nephew Tommy” Miles) is actually a thieving opportunist and that her granddaughter Ella Boudreaux (Keeya King) is just a lost twenty-something trying to build up her life after some missteps.”

“The subject of the film is pride, and I think there is a sliver of pride that everybody deals with. You can be proud of yourself, but it can get to a place where it’s not just about you,” Mills told Page Six of the project.

She adds, “It’s not about what’s mine, it’s about taking your stuff, too. That’s when pride [goes] a little bit too far, and you see that manifesting in different ways in this film. I can’t wait for people to see it. I really hope you get the message more than anything.”

In our exclusive conversation with Mills ahead of the film’s debut, the soulful songstress said she hopes viewers take away the message that “being prideful is so dangerous.”

“This movie talks about pride. And in our community, we have a lot of pride in the families. And I just hope that they get the message that being prideful is so dangerous. You got to be able to say, ‘I’m sorry. I love you,'” Mills said.

“Because some families don’t talk because they’re prideful. They don’t talk for 5 and 10 years. I was so happy to read the script, and it was so well written. And to play along with Nephew (Tommy) and Ella and Kenya and Erica, it was just wonderful,” she continued.

“It was so much love. Even Erica was just there for a day, but it was so much love, and it was just wonderful,” Mills told us.

Directed by Troy Scott from a script written by Felicia Brooker, “Pride: A Seven Deadly Sins Story” is executive produced by T.D. Jakes, Derrick Williams, and Shaun Robinson. It premieres April 8 on Lifetime.
