*If by chance you may have thought that Jonathan Majors was gonna slide out of being tried for domestic violence, you can perish the thought. The actor was in an NYC courtroom earlier today and learned that his trial has been set for Aug. 3.
Majors, 33, accompanied by girlfriend, Meagan Good, entered the courtroom at 9:15am wearing sunglasses and a brown suit. Majors removed his eyewear before approaching the bench for a status conference, which lasted about three minutes.
As we reported earlier, the once red-hot actor was busted on March 25 in Manhattan on domestic violence allegations and later charged with several accounts of assault and aggravated harassment. A 30-year-old woman named Grace Jabbari claims she was assaulted by Majors and had to be taken to a hospital with “minor injuries to her head and neck.”
However, Majors’ attorney Priya Chaudhry issued a statement after today’s court appearance saying her team has delivered evidence to the District Attorney “proving Grace Jabbari’s assault on Jonathan Majors and not the other way around.”
“We strongly requested the District Attorney dismiss all charges against Mr. Majors immediately and initiate proceedings against Ms. Jabbari, holding her accountable for her crimes,” Chaudhry wrote. “While we are hopeful that the District Attorney is reviewing these materials in good faith and will do the right thing soon, to accelerate our case, we’ve requested a trial date ASAP.”
It’s worth noting as well that back in April, Jabbari was granted a temporary order of protection. That means the two parties must not have any direct or third-party contact. Judge Rachel S. Pauley reiterated on Tuesday the “stay away” order remains in effect until the beginning of the trial.
If Majors doesn’t show up on August 3rd a warrant can be issued for his arrest within 48 hours, the judge reminded him.
“I obviously don’t want that to happen, so just stay in touch with your attorney,” she told Majors, who responded: “loud and clear.”
Up top, we mentioned that Majors’ Hollywood career was “once red-hot.” That’s not exactly the case now as he’s since been dropped by his PR team at the Lede Company, as well as his management, Entertainment 360. However, according to Variety, he’s still repped by WME.
