*Sydney Mitchell portrays LaWanda Roosevelt on the STARZ hit crime drama “BMF.” The series is based on the actual life events of brothers Demetrius (Demetrius Flenory jr) and Terry Flenory (Da’Vichini) in Late 80s Detroit. LaWanda is Terry’s girlfriend and mother to his son.

EURweb spoke exclusively with the actress about what viewers can expect from LaWanda now that she has discovered Terry has been cheating on her with Marqueshia (LaLa Anthony.)

At the end of season one, LaWanda leaves with Terry Jr. after Terry refuses to choose between his family and selling drugs with Meech. Season two saw LaWanda return only to sense that Terry now seems a little distant even though he says he wants to be with his family.

Mitchell said that although LaWanda knew Terry was cheating deep inside, she didn’t want to believe it, so she kept making excuses even though all the signs were there. She explained, “You watch Terry’s demeanor; the way he is around her, it’s very obvious. However, LaWanda wants her family together that badly. She wants to be around his parents and their family too. She wants that so much. She just keeps saying he loves me.”

Since the series is based on real life, I asked Mitchell if Terry’s real-life girlfriend had consulted a psychic like the scene we saw in episode seven of the current season. Mitchell shared that was something that did happen. But the actress noted, “A lot of things that are shared are not spot on true. However, that psychic scene was true. That happened in real life. She took all of his stuff because she was trying to find out why he was acting funny. So that was true. But, like many things, are embellished to create the character.”

Another scene featured LaWanda discovering Terry was meeting at a hotel with Marqueshia when Detective Bryant showed her photos. That is an example of something done to heighten the drama in the series.

Mitchell, explained, “Whereas they might not have visited her with the photos. They just wanted to create the scenario that she was feeling lonely. He was doing this and that while she was questioning things. She eventually found out but didn’t find out from the detectives. But that makes the show great.”

To find out how LaWanda responds to Terry’s betrayal and how things turn out in season two, catch all-new episodes of “BMF” Fridays on STARZ and the STARZ app.
