*The family of Jamari Baker, a 13-year-old 8th-grade autistic student at Bethune Middle School in South Central, Los Angeles, along with civil rights activist Najee Ali, Director of Project Islamic Hope are calling for a state investigation by the office of Tony Thurmond the California Superintendent of Public Instruction into a hoax memorial shrine of Jamari Baker that was created and left in the hallway of Bethune Middle School.

The shrine was displayed with pictures of Jamari and states he was shot and killed in South L.A by gang members. But Jamari Baker is very much alive.

“The family of Jamari Baker and community leaders are outraged by this insensitive hoax. LAUSD and Bethune Middle School officials are aware of the death hoax and have failed to do anything.” That’s why we’re calling for a state investigation

“The hoax memorial shrine of Jamari Baker should have been removed immediately from the school. This type of bullying and harassing of a special needs student will not be tolerated,” stated Najee Ali Director of Project Islamic Hope, and Robert Sausedo CEO of Community Build.

“My son is now in fear for his life. He is a special needs student with the intellectual capacity of an 8-year-old. He doesn’t understand why he’s the target of bullying and has never bothered anyone at school,” said Sophia Davis the mother of Jabari Baker

“But it’s very troubling and disturbing that Bethune Middle School Principal Sharon Brown has failed to act into addressing this issue properly,” Sophia Davis continued.

“This memorial hoax has been very traumatic for my son and our family remembers as we continue to be concerned for his safety, praying that he’s not the target of South Central Los Angeles gang members.

“We need the school administration to install cameras in the hallways which they currently don’t have to monitor the actions of anyone involved in bullying students,” Jamari Baker‘s mother, Sophia Davis, concluded.
