*”I’ll be out in 30 days.” OK, talk s—t and see what happens. That’s what a Las Vegas teen driver found out once he told police after fatally hitting a retired police chief.

The New York Post cites a report detailing the incident. The report notes that 18-year-old Jesus Ayala and Jzamir Keys, his 16-year-old passenger, were the teens involved in the fatality. Ayala is accused of driving a stolen Hyundai Elantra on Aug. 14 and deliberately crashing into and killing Andreas “Andy” Probst a 64-year-old man who was riding his bike.

Video footage captures the incident, which resulted in Ayala’s arrest hours after it occurred on Thursday. While in police custody, the teen predicted he would not be behind bars for too long.
“You think this juvenile [expletive] is gonna do some [expletive]? I’ll be out in 30 days, I’ll bet you,” Ayala told the authorities, according to KLAS-TV. “It’s just ah, [expletive] ah, hit-and-run — slap on the wrist.”

Keys allegedly recorded the video of the hit-and-run, capturing the moment the stolen Elantra hit Probst while he and Alaya laughingly said “Hit his ass.” The senior was tossed over the hood of the car and left to die.

Despite the video, the footage wasn’t the reason for Ayala’s arrest. KLAS-TV reports the just-turned-18-year-old was arrested for a warrant and obstructing a peace officer. At this time, Ayala is currently held at Clark County Detention Center without bail. In addition to the hit-and-run, he was hit with 18 charges including open murder, attempted murder, and grand larceny.

On Thursday, Ayala and Keys made their first appearances in Las Vegas Justice Court. Minor status won’t be a factor as the teens, who didn’t speak during their separate appearances and weren’t asked to enter a plea, were charged as adults.

Although Keys and Ayala are involved in the same incident, their respective cases will be handled separately, in light of Keys’ arrest on Tuesday after he was captured on video engaging in a fight last week. He collected three charges from that incident.

“Both these defendants will be charged with open murder, attempted murder, and many other related charges,” Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson told reporters outside court. In the prosecutor’s eyes, Keys and Ayala are a real danger to the community he serves.

Prior to Wolf’s statement, prosecutors sought high bail pending, the Times noted.

“The events in these cases are related,” he said. “I’m very confident these cases will be consolidated.”

Keys was linked to the hit-and-run on Probst from the white shoes he wore in the video of his fight.

Among those taking in Thursday’s hearing were Probst’s widow, Crystal Probst, and daughter, Taylor Probst. After the hearing, the pair left immediately without speaking to reporters.
