*Afroman has announced he is joining the 2024 presidential race.
The 48-year-old artist — real name Joseph Edgar Foreman — has reportedly filed the required documents with the Federal Elections Commission to run in the next election for president of the U.S. Per TMZ, Afroman’s presidential committee is named “Joseph Afroman Foreman for President,” and he’s running as an Independent.
Afroman initially shared his campaign plans during a concert in Missouri in December, according to multiple reports.
“Can I make the biggest announcement I ever made in my life? I’m running for president in 20-20-fro! We gonna get legal weed everywhere,” the “Because I Got High” rapper told the crowd, per MSN.

He reportedly followed up the announcement with an Instagram post detailing his presidential campaign’s “eight main priorities,” which include criminal justice reform and legalizing marijuana.
Afroman stayed true to his word, as he filed the official paperwork on April 18, according to TMZ. The move follows reports that the hip-hop star is being sued by the Adams County Sheriff’s Department for copyright infringement.
“Afroman’s ongoing persecution by the overtly corrupt Adams County Sheriff’s Department perfectly highlights that this corruption of leadership has trickled down to law enforcement all across the country,” Afroman’s campaign manager Jason Savage tells TMZ. “Criminal Justice Reform and Federal Marijuana Legalization remain two of the primary planks in his campaign platform. We are asking for your support as Afroman takes on this great and worthy cause as our Cannabis Commander in Chief.”
Meanwhile, U.S. President Joe Biden is looking to extend his stay in the Oval Office until he is 86 years old. According to Reuters, he may soon announce his re-election campaign.
“We’ll announce it relatively soon,” Biden told reporters last Friday. “I told you my plan is to run again.”
If he is reelected to a second four-year term, Biden will be the oldest person to have occupied the White House.
In related news, we reported previously that conservative talk radio host Larry Elder, 70, announced Thursday he is running for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.
Elder made the announcement on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” LA Times reports.
He later followed up with a tweet that reportedly read, “America is in decline, but this decline is not inevitable. We can enter a new American Golden Age, but we must choose a leader who can bring us there. That’s why I’m running for President,” Elder wrote.
