New AI Website Breaks Down Meaning of Any Song

*A Reddit user has reportedly developed a website that uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to explain the meaning of “virtually any song.”

The site is called songtell.com and according to the app creator, it uses AI technology to analyze song entries and write a synopsis. So far, the site has over 33,000 submissions. 

EUR tested it by entering the title of one of my personal favorites, “Golden Brown” by The Strangers (yeah, I love rock music). This is what songtell.com came up with: The song “Golden Brown” by The Stranglers is a somber, romantic ode to a mysterious passion, described in terms of the smooth, shimmering warmth of its color. The narrator is captivated by his love interest and expresses his admiration for her beauty and grace, wishing for his heart to be held captive by her for all time. The chorus repeats the phrase “never a frown with golden brown” as a reminder that their connection will bring him joy and pleasure and never an ounce of sadness or regret. The metaphor of golden brown as a tender, serene pleasure serves as a reminder to cherish and appreciate an eternal moment of beauty.

Interesting… considering that in his book “The Stranglers Song By Song,” band member Hugh Cornwell said this about the song: “‘Golden Brown’ works on two levels. It’s about heroin and also about a girl. Essentially the lyrics describe how both provided me with pleasurable times.”

We also tested the song “C.R.E.A.M.” by Wu-Tang Clan and here’s what songtell.com said: The song “C.R.E.A.M.” by Wu-Tang Clan is an ode to the importance of money, but also serves as a warning to the dangers of it. The title stands for “Cash Rules Everything Around Me,” which is a reference to the fact that money is the driving force behind the hustler’s lifestyle. The song follows the story of a young street hustler trying to make enough money to survive, and explores the themes of ambition, perseverance, and living in a material world. The lyrics draw a stark contrast between life in poverty and the luxury that money can bring and ultimately highlight just how powerful money can be.

The site also breaks down Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” as follows: The song “Thriller” is a horror-themed dance-pop song that depicts a horrifying and suspenseful situation. The lyrics tell a story of a person being stalked by a spooky creature at night, having to fight for survival against it and its cohorts until morning. The song encourages listeners to embrace their fears and dance along with the beat as if to challenge their own anxiety. The bridge of the song also builds in a sense of urgency as the protagonist realizes that “There’s no escaping the jaws of the alien this time”. In the end, the protagonist is triumphant and proves that “No mere mortal can resist the evil of the thriller”. The message of the song is to overcome fear through facing it head-on and to be brave.

Here’s the AI’s write-up for “Drunk In Love” by Beyonce f/ JAY-Z: In the song “Drunk in Love” by Beyoncé featuring JAY-Z, the couple is revealing their sensual chemistry as they celebrate the intoxication of love. The chorus ‘We be all night, love, love’ might illustrate their plans to be present with each other through the night, and the lyrics, ‘Smoking cigars, cigars on ice/Feeling like an animal with these cameras all in my grill’ show their confidence in front of cameras among any kind of scenery. Beyoncé speaks openly about her sexual desires, as does JAY-Z in his verse. The chorus is repeated throughout the song, which could potentially be a warning to all that their feelings are unstoppable because they are ‘Drunk in Love’.

As Soul Tracks reports, “For music lovers, songtell.com is an early view into a world that is no doubt coming, as AI and machine learning will continue to play a bigger role in how humans catalog information, access data and communicate,” the outlet writes.
