Michael Jordan Recounts Begging His Mother for Cash, Reflects on Bulls 1997-98 Championship Season [VIDEO]

*Michael Jordan appeared on Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts to promote ESPN’s upcoming docu-series on the 1997-98 Chicago Bulls, titled “The Last Dance,” and the NBA legend also recalled being a broke college student at the University of North Carolina.

During the interview, Jordan recounted how he once had to beg his mother, Deloris, for cash and postage stamps.

“It’s a little different today,” Jordan said. “I had a phone bill that was probably $60 or a little less and I only had $20 in my account. I had to ask my mom to send me postage stamps,” he explained.

“We didn’t have Twitter so I mean you had to live life as it came, you know, and each day you learned the education aspect, spending time with friends and family, it wasn’t via the phone,’ Jordan continued. It was actually in presence and you wrote letters.

Jordan added, “To me, that’s probably the most refreshing thing that my mom, she kept all my letters. So I mean it’s somewhat embarrassing but yet it’s refreshing that I took the time to write a letter to say how much I love my mom and, you know, what I needed in college.”

ESPN’s “The Last Dance” is a long-awaited 10-part documentary on MJ and his 1997-98 championship season and final run with the Bulls.

“Mentally it tugged at you that this had to come to an end, but it also centered our focus to making sure we ended it right,” Jordan said Thursday in a live “Good Morning America” interview from his Florida home. “As sad as it sounded at the beginning of the year, we tried to rejoice and enjoy the year and finish it off the right way.”

The series is set to begin 8 p.m. this Sunday (04-12-20) on ESPN (and ESPN2, which will take out vulgarities), with two episodes each week through May 17.
