*Tony Dungy is speaking out after NBC informed the Hall of Fame coach that he would not be returning to “Football Night in America” this fall, The Daily Mail reports. The veteran analyst addressed the situation publicly on social media, acknowledging the disappointment while expressing optimism about whatever comes next.
For nearly two decades, Dungy had been among the most recognized voices in NFL studio coverage, joining the network’s pregame broadcast in 2009 and building a 17-season presence on the show. He addressed his exit in a statement posted to Twitter, writing: “I have been informed by NBC that I won’t be back with FNIA this fall and it has given me time to reflect and also to look ahead. It’s disappointing news but I want to thank my NBC family for making the last 17 years so special.”
He added, “I’ll have lasting memories of my time there, especially with Rodney Harrison who has become a tremendous friend. God has always directed me in these moments and while I’m not sure what the next step will be for me — whether it will be in football, in broadcasting, or getting more involved in church and community outreach — I know God has plans for my life and I can’t wait [to] see them unfold. And I am reminded of one of my favorite verses in the Bible — Romans 8:28. ‘God works all things for His good for those who love the Lord.'”

Dungy’s departure does not appear to be an isolated decision. The Athletic reported earlier this year that multiple studio analysts were set to depart following the close of the 2025 season as NBC prepared to overhaul its NFL programming roster.
Long before his broadcasting career, Dungy established himself as one of the most accomplished coaches in the game. He spent six seasons leading the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before moving on to take charge of the Indianapolis Colts, a position he held for seven years. That run in Indianapolis produced a Super Bowl XLI title, a moment that helped secure his place among the sport’s elite and ultimately led to his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
