*Fans of “The Best Man” franchise will find a literary way to follow their favorite characters’ exploits, with a trilogy of new novels. The series’ transition from the big and small screen to book format will come from the filmmaker Malcolm D. Lee.
Lee will co-author the book series with “Black Girls Must Die Exhausted” scribe Jayne Allen.
“The Best Man: Unfinished Business,” the series’ first novel, will be published on July 1 from Storehouse Voices, with the other two page turners coming slated for a 2026 release.
Picking up from where the 2022 Peacock series, “The Best Man: The Final Chapters” left off, a press release for “The Best Man” book series reveals it will center on novelist Harper Stewart, his wife Robyn and former girlfriend Jordan Armstrong s they navigate unconventional parenthood, mid-life crises and a second chance at love.
The book series expands on the characters’ story that started in the 1999 classic romantic comedy “The Best Man.” The movie, which starred Taye Diggs as Harper, Sanaa Lathan as Robyn and Nia Long as Jordan, finds Harper reunited with college buddies Lance Sullivan (Morris Chestnut), Quentin “Q” Spivey (Terrence Howard), and Julian “Murch” Murchison (Harold Perrineau) during a particularly dramatic wedding weekend, according to Lipstick Alley.

The saga continued 14 years later with “The Best Man Holiday in 2013 and a small screen shift to “The Best Man: The Final Chapters” in 2022. Weighing on the new format for the “The Best Man” series, Allen mentioned how “thrilling” it was to collaborate with Lee to open “a new avenue of immersive storytelling for this beloved franchise through the written word.”
“I’m very excited for readers to share in the delight of this book series and travel along with its many unexpected twists for Harper, Jordan, Robyn, and the crew,” she told People.
“Along with so many others, I’ve treasured this group of friends since The Best Man’s box office opening in 1999, so I hope that fans will love this fresh take on the well-known characters, especially to discover their voices sparkle as brightly on the page as they do on the screen.”
Although he is very familiar with the “Best Man” universe, Diggs is just as excited to see what lies ahead for Harper and Co. In the written world.
“When you’re as close to the characters as I have been, you think you can predict what’s coming around the corner, but this kept even me on the edge of my seat,” he said in the press release. “The Best Man: Unfinished Business” dives deeper into the lives of these characters revealing what has made them who they are, the good and the bad.”

“From a second chance romance to wrestling with heartbreak and purpose, Malcolm and Jayne have given the best men and women new life,” Diggs continued. “Emotionally-engrossing. Seductive. Impossible to put down. It’s the perfect summer read, full of heat!”
With the release of “The Best Man: Unfinished Business” drawing near, an amazed Chestnut reflected on the impact of characters, which is still felt to this day.
“When I met these classic characters twenty-five years ago, no way did I think they’d have the longevity that they’ve had, but Malcolm Lee keeps elevating the storytelling,” the “Watson” star voiced in the press release.
“Unfinished Business is the characters you love like you’ve never seen them before! You will laugh out loud and possibly shed a few tears, so read this with your crew. A must-read for new and old fans alike. You will keep wanting more.”
“The Best Man: Unfinished Business” is available now for preorder, wherever books are sold.
