*Dying on your birthday is definitely a sad thought but being shot down right after you have posted that you were glad to have turned 17 is just inconsolable. This is exactly what happened to Armond Latimore in St. Louis, Missouri outside a restaurant.
What’s even sadder is that her mother had gotten a call from a dispatch in St. Louis about her son getting shot when she was out getting a birthday cake and some ice cream for her son. Latimore’s mother, Chandra Payne told the news that her son had told her that he wanted that ice cream for his birthday and she got the dreadful call 3 minutes after entering Save A Lot.
Misconceptions
Following his death, there were a lot of Facebook posts where people portrayed Latimore holding a handgun and posing with gang signs and money. His mom, however, came forward to clear his name saying that the gun did not belong to him and that he had always been a child who would offer a helping hand around the house. She continued to say that he would sell water, wash people’s cars, and cut grass.
If you think his mother would have a biased opinion, one of Latimore’s teachers had let the world know through Facebook that he was always full of life. Erik Lewis said that he loved money and music and always made it right with people around him,
“The guy was always smiling, full of humor, and full of life,” Lewis wrote, per the Independent. “Always making me laugh – most certainly a life to be honored”, said Lewis.
Fatally Shot in the Head
In a sad turn of events, Latimore had just tweeted being happy about turning 17 moments before being fatally shot in the head. The tweet by Latimore read, “Thru all the (expletive) I den been thru I’m just glad I can say I made it to see 17.”
Harvey Collins’ daughter was with Latimore before the incident occurred and he dropped her off to her dorm just a couple of hours before his death. “I can’t believe that a couple of hours later he was dead,” Collins said.
This sad incident occurred at 1 pm on a Saturday and Latimore was shortly pronounced dead at the hospital. Homicide detectives have been investigating the incident and there have still been no leads or arrests made.
